waiting . . . and searching . . .

i was on ebay and other sights again last night looking for the right cars, looked at quite a few elantras that were complete nice cars in the $600 to $700 price range so i think that's what i'll be looking at for my parts car.

still looking for 97 to 99 tib i really like that style . . .

  1. Hello Mike. Did you happen to get this second project done in the 5 years since there comments?

I'll never forget the video of that twin engine Tiburon that you did with Dragon Racing some time back. I'm a Tiburon fan myself and have (at rather excessive expense and time) manged to have fitted a Link G4 ECU. I'm especially curious about what you think about the strength and limits of the automatic transmissions in these Tiburons and Elantras. What little I have been able to read up on, they are apparently a bit of a "pain" for the transmission shops, and are saidto have quirky operating modes, and also said to be rather weak. Though I find mine to be fairly fuel efficient. Someone, Dennis Madden I think wrote a book about them I intend to order, called "Those Darn KMs" and apparently he has a kind of love / hate relationship with these transmissions - kind offinds them to be a challenge I think! Yet you managed to drive each at somewhere north of 310hp I think, which is well in exces of the torque they were designed to handle. What did you think of those transmissons? On the contrary, I hear that the engines are very strong. I have just had rebuilt my Elantras engine, and I'm getting it abrasion hone ported in the head, exhaust and lnlet manifolds, so I'll probably have to get the stock Hyundai ECU custom chipped to take advantage of the extra power it should be able to generate. I own a tiburon and an Elantra, both bought secondhand. You know I think the Elantra and the tiburons have some of the best sounding 4 cylinder exhaust sounds out there. I think it's because of the two centre resonators that are right next to each other. My idea is that there are two resonance waves setup in the exhaust, one resonating with the rear resonator and the other wave resonating with the one in front, so the two notes are close but "out of tune" which i find gives it a wonderful growling sound. I think you had that sound ( x 2) on the Dragoin racing car didn't you? Maybe not, but it sounded like it where the camera shows you accelerating down the straight for that 11 second quarter mile.
